Terms of Service

Last updated: October 20, 2026

These terms cover your use of the Gofer software and this website, gofer.email. By using either, you agree to them.

What Gofer is

Gofer is free, open source software for email, contacts, and calendar, published under the MIT license. You download it and run it yourself. The Gofer project does not host your account or operate a service for you.

License

The software’s source code is licensed under the MIT license, which governs your rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute it. If these terms conflict with the MIT license about the software itself, the MIT license wins. The content of this website is covered by the license in the site repository.

Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for the instance you run, including its security, updates, backups, and the data stored in it.
  • You must follow the terms of the services you connect to Gofer, such as Google, Microsoft, and your mail provider. Gofer does not change those terms.
  • You must not use Gofer to send spam, break the law, or abuse other people’s systems.
  • If you run Gofer for others, you are responsible for how you handle their data and for telling them how.

Third-party services

Gofer connects to services we do not control, including Gmail, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft 365, and IMAP, JMAP, SMTP, CardDAV, and CalDAV servers. Their availability, behavior, and terms are their own. You can revoke Gofer’s access from each provider at any time.

Privacy

How data is handled is described in the Privacy Policy.

No warranty

Gofer and this website are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Email and calendar software can lose or alter data. Keep your own backups.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the authors and contributors are not liable for any claim, damages, or other liability, including lost or corrupted data, arising from the use of Gofer or this website.

Changes

These terms may be updated. The new version will be published on this page with an updated date, and continued use means you accept it.
